Experimental Cocktails, Alina's GoodBye and New Shoes

Finals are halfway done! So much has been going on, I haven't been able to wrap my brain around it. On the West Coast, Seda has been apartment hunting for us and we seemed to have pinned one down, so keep your fingers crossed for us. My honeybunny whiskerbobes graduated with our amigos in Santa Cruz and I was bummed that I couldn't be there for the festivities, but so so so proud of him :-) On this coast, I have been studying to the point of brain atrophy and wrapping up my school year with some fun things. Last week, Alina, Leiley, Maya, Petra and I went to the Experimental Cocktail Bar in Soho. We heard about it from a friend and the only thing to identify it is the blue door in the middle of Gerrard Street. It was two floors and had this speakeasy/vintage London vibe and we had amazing cocktails. All the girls each got a different cocktail, so we could have a little taster. One was called Tea in Africa - the main flavors were rooibos tea and some sort of peach mint liquor. Rob asked me "if it tasted like colonialism." LMAO. (Wow, I've never used that acronym before - can't say I like it, but it seemed approps.) I got one with Rhubarb and pink champagne. My favorite was called the Old Cuban, but I can't remember all the flavors. Tasted like heaven though.

The next day, we celebrate Alina's going away :-/ at the Breakfast Club with Leiley and Kumar. I'm going to miss Alina but she's onto bigger things, like an adorbz little puppy at home...

And then I splurged yesterday with these amazing shoes that were on sale at Kurt Geiger. I'm not even going to post the sale price because I'm scared of maternal retribution, but since my family were all having a great time in Santa Cruz and I had to take a final, I thought I would treat myself.
In the last few days, Leiley and I have been gymming it, I've been doing a ton of studying and we went on a lovely long walk through St. Pauls and down the Thames yesterday. (I'll post pics later.) For the rest of the week, more studying for finals, apartment organization, booking my trip to SF/Portland, more studying, and tonight, Maya, Leils and I are taking my shoes on a night out on the town (which will be a quiet night with a glass of wine at another cocktail bar we've been wanting to try.) xx

Jeffrey Campbell Love

So I totally fell for these shoes ages ago, but couldn't find them in the UK and they were sold out when I got back to the States. But while shopping in Downtown Santa Cruz with Tawsh yesterday, I found them and am over the moon :-)

Monday Morning!

I should be working on blogs for work and catching up on reading, but first my lovely weekend update!

I caught up on American Idol on Friday and fell in LOVE with Steven Tyler. I mean, I always had a little bit of a crush, but he is just amazing. And hilarious and sweet. And hilarious:
"Shit fire and save matches, fuck a duck and see what hatches" - love it.

Late start Saturday, but a much needed respite. Went to brunch at the Modern Pantry with Maya. I love this place. We ordered lattes (of course) and I ordered the Vattalapam spiced French toast, apple & tamarind puree, maple syrup, bacon while Maya got the scrambled eggs and toast with smoked bacon, slow-roast tomatoes, and buttered mushrooms.

Afterwards, we went shopping which was probably a bad idea. Because I bought the following from this boutique called Sublime.

Then we stopped by the stores in Angel and Maya picked up shoes from All Saints and an adorable lilac top. We finished off the evening being wooed by old Italian men at an Italian restaurant in Exmouth Market.

Sunday, I ran to Hyde Park and met Maya, Mollie and Erica in Hyde Park for a late lunch of gruyere cheese burgers for them and a butternut squash and basil sandwich for me. The weathers and the lattes were perfect. Then I ran back home and worked until the wee hours of the morning. And now it is Monday and I feel rested and happy and ready to get working!

{Inspiration} Monday

Getting up this morning was probably the hardest thing I will do all week. But the good news was that Jas was online and I got to Skype with him! I think that was the best way to start my day (plus the extra large latte from Sweet) and that they start making it when they see me walk in :-)
I have class at 3, but I'm just reading and blogging till then. On the agenda this week: reading, some more reading, work blogging, probably some more work blogging, and trying to find more good music.
I think I have figured out what my dissertation will be on, so updates on that later. Some big decisions about life have to be made soon., but I'm also putting that on hold for as long possible - immersing myself in research about sex trafficking seems a little less stressful right now. Should also start to plan Katie and Sara's big trip out here and get plans for Ireland settled. Also on the itinerary: Bath, Oxford and Brighton??? I love living here.
On to my inspiration for the week:

Hope in the world: lol - the stories I have heard this week warranted this:

I want to do something like this in my apartment when I finally get one in the near or distant future. I love how unique a collage like this would be in someone's home. Daily inspiration in the flesh.

Everything about this photo is perfect. I want the braids, the dress, the sunglasses and the bike. Oh and the purse and the basket and the shoes. kthanks.

The shoes of my dreams. They. Are. Perfect.

Happy Monday!
xoxo

Yay - I finally committed!

...to the rain.

Anyone in London can tell you I have refused to submit to the rain since I got here. For one month, I pranced merrily around and managed to avoid water falling from the sky. I just would miss it. It would happen when I was in class or the library or I would conveniently sneak into a pub/cafe to avoid it. However, this past Saturday, I got caught in the rain and bought a crappy, overpriced umbrella from a stand and realized I could no longer live in denial.

So then I bought these beauties, which have been circulating the blogosphere since they were released a couple of months ago from Loeffler-Randler.

Aren't they gorgeous?

I need to commit to buying new clothes and stuff for my (hypothetical) apartment next year. The problem is I just want everything.
