Jam in the Van: #savethevan

Last night, Priyah invited me to a backyard music fundraiser in Venice for Jam in the Van.

From Jam in the Van's website:

"In short, Jam in the Van was created by a group of friends, each from a different walk of life and background, each with one common bond, the love of music. We built a Jam Van by turning an old Winnebago into a professional sound studio.  We invite musicians inside of the van to record intimate HD sessions to showcase the artists' live performances. "

Jam in the Van has had performers as Meiko, The Peach Kings, Vanaprasta, and Honey Island Swamp Band (which are coincidentally, some of my faves.)

Jam in the Van recently went to SXSW and the van went through a lot so they were raising money to make a new van, hence the #savethevan event last night. So for $10 each, we got to hear amazing music from The Dustbowl Revival (my folk love at its best) and got to meet the members as well as meet the bassist from John Wayne Bro (a little Black Keys-ish) and tons of other local musicians. (And there was beer.)

This is a pretty amazing thing and I think everyone should donate to/follow Jam in the Van

:-)

Overall, after a day of studying, it was an amazing end to the week - Thank you, Priyah for the invite!

I love men who look homeless...

That's what Maya and Leiley said to me when I tried to get them to come with me to an Edward Sharpe and Magnetic Zeros concert in London last year in the Old Vic Tunnels. Um. I love love love Alexander Ebert. He touched my hand once. It was great. See photos here and here.

And now the band has released two singles from their upcoming album. And it's a different sound, but I'm into it.

Sunday {Music} - In F***ing LOVE

Last night, I went to Cha Cha Lounge in Silverlake, a sort of cantina, with Priyah (my Brentwood Barbie) and Veronica and friends. So many hipsters I almost died.

Anywho, since I met like a bajillion people who are in bands last night, I'm on a music kick, so enjoy.

YOGA TIME. Then dins with Katherine and preparing for my oral argument. Fun times.

xoxo

Folk, blues, amazingness from Alabama Shakes:

fun beat with some angst = perfect.

Sunshinnnnnnneeee

Last night, Becky and I hit up Plan Check, a newish bar on Sawtelle, with my friend Priyah for an amazing dinner and cocktails. Priyah just got back from India and we had a lot of catching up to do. We tried the fries, beet salad, butter lettuce salad, and the portobello mushroom burger. PHENOM. And it was only made better by the experimental cocktails, including the Tropic Thunder made with jalapeno, another drink made with homemade soda, and mine which was made with rum, cointreau, and grenadine. In the words of Ina Garten, "How bad can that be?" Contemporary American comfort food was exactly what I was in the mood for and the environment was super upbeat. You def must check it out.

After dinner, we headed over to Alene's to pick up Aline, Alene, and Seda and headed over to The Misfit in Santa Monica for a couple of drinks with my girl, Veronica. Winners: the Bee's Knees (with lavender honey - obvs my fave ever) and the Bijous, which was sparkling with grapefruit and went straight to my head.

It was a casual night but it made me incredibly grateful for my friends. To have friends from all different times and parts of my life together and laughing and gelling is an amazing thing. Smart, snarky, and gorgeous, they inspire me everyday. I love those beezies.

So today, we're about to take the pups for a trailrun. My dad is making Greek food. I want to pick up a mini cupcake pan to bake some treats and I'm trudging through civpro. I got to talk to both Carrie and Rob this morning, which is always a pick-me-up ANDDDDD and I'm sifting through Coachella wardrobe options.

Despite a tough couple of weeks, I'm filled with gratitude.

lovelovelovelove from me to you
and a folk cover of one of my fave songs:
