{Music} Wicked Games (The Weeknd Cover)- Coeur de Pirate

I love Coeur de Pirate aka Beatrice Martin. Her self-titled album, released in 2008, is one of my most played. I want to finish learning French so that maybe one day I can sing like her. In French. the possibility of this is well, impossible. However, this phenomenal singer just released a cover of a Wicked Games song and its simultaneously ethereal and edgy. LOVESIT.

In other news, Priyah and Johana came over for a girls' night in and I'm rather proud of the vegan meal I made. I made roasted herb root vegetables (parsnip, beets, sweet potatoes) with a dijon-horseradish-balsamic dressing over a salad of spring greens and fried tofu. Yum. And hanging out with P and J is always fun and relaxing - I laughed so much, my kidneys hurt today :-). Okay back to crim law...

VMAS - {Fashion} Inspiration

I don't actually like Katie Holmes all that much. But her VMA outfit has me drooling. I love her hair and dress and those mustard colored shoes are to die for. Also Beyonce is pregs!!! I'm so excited, it's kind of weird.

{Music} Jay-Z & Kanye - N*****s in Paris

I just listened to this 17 times in a row.

In the library with a soy latte, recovering from Wurstkuche as well as from bar-hopping around DTLA last night. It's gonna be a long day.

So it begins...

Saying good-bye to vacation and hello to school :-)

My second day of law school is today and I'm just starting to figure out my life and work out my routine. So far, it looks like gym in the morning (although I think I will have to wake up earlier to get in a full workout), shower, typing up reading notes, and then catching up with the news/my blogs/emails. Then lunch and prepare for class. Go to class (pack water and a snack bc they are long classes, fml.) Come home, eat dinner, and then review class notes and read/review for the next day. Mind you, I had already done most of the reading for this week over the weekend and had to go over it again, which should have saved me time, but I was still crunched to finish. I also realized that I have to type notes in class, rather than handwrite them, because transcribing later is a pain. I think I will outline reading notes and add to them from lecture in a different color. (Most of the professor's exam questions/answers stem from lecture notes, rather than reading notes, but it's good to have the context side by side with the professor's thoughts, right?

I do have to say I love being busy, and always feel the best when I have a ton of things to complete. Law school, however, demands good time management, which I need to work on. That and learning how to raise my hand (Why do I always get so nervous?) Also have to figure out how to get yoga into my daily routine, balancing keeping in touch with friends, and downtime. (How do I fit in True Blood?) I'm hoping by the end of this week, I can get in the rhythm of things.

In other news, I mailed my thesis yesterday (but still need to upload it online). Planning on seeing Priyah and Johana this Thursday for a girls' night out and then a law school event on Friday. Seda and I are finally going to buy our dining table. My mom also finished my quilt and is also going to bring up some plants and herbs for our balcony garden. I need to get the art on the walls this weekend and do a long run. Also planning my January NY trip and going home?

So so so happy to be back in school, even if it is a little overwhelming! xoxoxo

{Music} New Feist & Updates

Went to the Frightened Rabbit and Death Cab concert last night at the Greek with Johana. I was a bit apprehensive because Alexandra had seen DCFC a few years ago and said their live show was a bit disappointing that night. Last night, however, they were en pointe - effing phenomenal... They played mostly old songs, which warmed my little heart and did a great job with "Some Boys" from their new album. And I am soooooo happy that Frightened Rabbit was their opener, because I don't think I would ever have the op to see them otherwise. And they were even better live than on their albums. Their first song was "Modern Leper," which is of my favorite songs of all time, so it started the night off well. In other news, I've picked up my books and need to start reading for school. Also, finished the final draft of my dissertation today! Just need to print it and do one more look-over and then mail it out on Monday! Other things I am looking forward to: the housewarming party, sleep, SC and Bon Iver are coming up soon and actually getting into the routine of school again. I am a happy camper indeed :-)

{Travel} Portland Video

One of my first attempts at filming and editing, thanks to the wonders of my iPhone. Please excuse the choppiness of the end, my shaky camera work throughout and the weird speed. I'll improve, I promise. This video showcases some of the random highlights of Carrie's and my trip to Portland last weekend, including our time in SF, Eugene, and the city itself. Had an amazing time (thanks to help from Nathalie and Cole) and want to go back soon. More photos and writing to come soon (after I finish my dissertation.)

*The song is Generator by The Freelance Whales.

Off to SF/Portland & {Music} Lana Del Rey

Sorry for being MIA. The last week was crazy with Rob and Carrie visiting. We did everything LA, including the Standard, Urth, Intellegentsia, The Library Bar, etc. Now rushing to finish this draft of my dissertation and packing for Portland! Flying to Sf tonight to hit up the Mission with Carrie, Max and Rob. Then Carrie and I are planning on brunch at Tartine and driving to Eugene to camp. Then Portland on Friday. We are thinking the Hawthorne District on Friday for some vintage shopping and thrifting, some record shopping and microbrew before a show at the Crystal Ballroom. Then on Saturday, there is the Saturday Market and then the Alberta Street Fair on Saturday afternoon for live music, beer tasting and food. Also, another show at the White Eagle. We also need to hit up VooDoo Donuts, Powell's Books and Sumptown Coffee. A must-do in Portland according to Nathalie, we are planning on hiking Multnomah Falls on Sunday before heading home.

And some beautiful music to keep me going:

{Music} Magic Man

I love this song.
Magic Man - Darling by coolthanks.net

Looking forward to the arrival of my loves Carrie and Rob tonight for a weekend of amazingness. The last two days have been legit and I feel like I'm settling into DT finally. Last night, remembered my love for Thai at dinner with Sam. Today, I hit up Starry Kitchen with Jeff for delicious crab cakes and then we went to Cafe Dulce for Vietnamese coffee. I am so strung out on coffee right now, my hands are trembling too much to type properly. Tonight, headed to Busby's for drinks with friends including Seda, Aline, Alene and Veronica. ANNNNNNDDDDDDD I spent the better part of my afternoon researching BackPage.com and finishing up another section of my dissertation... SO CLOSE!

But right now, I need to run off this coffee at gym.

Ciao!

Dissertation - HItting the Halfway Mark & {Music} Emma Louise

Too bad my end point was supposed to be 24 hours ago. Agh. I'm having difficulty getting in the zone. But at least I've been consistently working, right? Hoping to get another 1000 words done tonight. We'll see how this goes. On the bright side, I did a nice long run this morning and Carrie and Rob might be headed down this weekend, which is just another thing this week to look forward too :-)
